Unit 1: Skills for School and Learning

9/4/2025 – U1 L1: Computer Safety and Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) [Lead by Mr. Maniscalco]

B-LS 5. Apply media and technology skills

9/8/2025 – U1 L2: School and the School Counselor: Students will become better acquainted with Ms. Dodson and school counseling. They will understand that a counselor’s main job is to support students and help them be successful.

B-SS 3. Positive relationships with adults to support success

9/15/2025 – U1 L3: Focusing Attention, Listening, and Following Directions: Students will identify skills needed to focus attention, listen, and follow directions. They will apply focusing attention, listening, and following directions skills to correctly complete activities.

B-SS 1. Effective oral and written communication skills and listening skills

9/22/2025 – U1 L4: Using Self Talk – Helpful Thoughts – to Make Change Happen: Students will define positive self-talk, identify skills needed to practice positive self-talk, and apply positive self-talk to situations.

9/29/2025 – U1 L5: Growth Mindset: The Power of Yet: Students will gain an understanding of the terms growth mindset and “the power of yet.” They will apply the power of yet concept to situations.

Unit 2: Understanding Emotions

11/3/2025 – U2 L1: What’s That Emotion: Students will recognize and name emotions in others, determine if an emotion is mild or strong, and determine if an emotion is comfortable / pleasant OR uncomfortable / unpleasant.

11/10/2025 – U2 L2: Feeling – Thought Connections: Students will understand that situations bring about thoughts and feelings, explore the connection between their thoughts and feelings, and practice changing their thoughts to change their feeling.

11/17/2025 – U2 L3: Feelings – Thoughts – Actions: Students will describe different feelings, thoughts, and actions/behaviors that may occur in response to a situation, describe how thoughts can influence feelings and actions/behaviors, and determine how people can feel, think, and act/behave differently in the same situation.

12/1/2025 – U2 L4: Empathy, Compassion, and Inclusion: Students will define empathy, compassion, and inclusion, discuss differences in learning among students, and promote empathic, compassionate, and inclusive attitudes and behaviors.

12/8/2025 –L: SPECIAL CHILD PROTECTION LESSON: Students will recognize different types of touches, identify private body parts touching rule and the never keep secrets rule, refuse unsafe and unwanted touches assertively, and practice reporting unsafe and unwanted touches. (Letters sent home November 14th)

Unit 3: Emotional Management

1/5/2026 – U3 L1: Feeling Feelings in Our Bodies: Students will learn 2 clues that help them name their own feelings and then use those 2 clues to name their feelings.

B-LS 1. Critical thinking skills to make informed decisions

1/12/2026 – U3 L2: Flipping Your Lid: Students will learn what happens in their brains when they have strong feelings and “Flip Your Lid.

B-SMS 2. Self-discipline and self-control

1/19/2026 – U3 L3: Intro to the Zones: Students will learn about the 4 ZONES of Regulation and begin classifying feelings into ZONES.

B-LS 1. Critical thinking skills to make informed decisions

1/26/2026 – U3 L4: The Green Zone: Students will learn about the GREEN ZONE and identify strategies (TOOLS) to stay in the GREEN ZONE and go back to the GREEN ZONE if needed. B-SMS 2. Self-discipline and self-control

2/2/2026 – U3 L5: The Blue Zone: Students will learn about the BLUE ZONE and identify TOOLS to stay in the BLUE ZONE or become more awake and go back to the GREEN ZONE if needed.

2/9/2026 – U3 L6: The Yellow Zone and the Red Zone: Students will learn about the YELLOW and RED ZONEs and identify TOOLS to calm down and go back to the green zone.
