Unit 1: Skills for School and Learning

Overarching Mindset and Behavior – M5. Belief in using abilities to their fullest to achieve high-quality results and outcomes

9/1/2025 – U1L1: Computer Safety and Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) – Lead by Ms. Kilmer

B-LS 5. Apply media and technology skills 

9/8/2025 – U1L2: School and the School Counselor: Students will learn some facts about Ms. Dodson and her job as a school counselor.

B-SS 3. Positive relationships with adults to support success 

9/15/2025 – U1L3: Respect and Personal Space: Students will define respect and personal space. They will practice ways to respect the personal space of others and learn what to say and do if someone is not respecting their personal space.

B-SMS 2. Self-Discipline and Self-Control 

9/22/2025 –U1L4: Responsible Learners Focus Attention and Follow Directions: Students will define responsibility. They will learn and practice skills needed to listen and follow directions.

B-LS 8. Engagement in Challenging Coursework 

9/29/2025 – U1L5: Trustworthiness and Using Self-Talk to Follow School Rules/Expectations: Students will define trustworthiness. They will discuss school rules and why we have them. Strategies to help students follow all rules will be explored.

B-SMS 1. Responsibility for Self and Actions 

10/6/2025 – U1L6: Kindness: Students will define kindness. They will discuss ways they can show kindness to others and what they can say and do when others are being unkind.

M 2. Sense of acceptance, respect, support and inclusion for self and others in the school environment 

10/13/2025 – U1L7: Engaging in Conversation: Students will express thoughts clearly and kindly in a conversation with others, listen carefully and respond to others with a comment or question, and use conversation do’s and avoid conversation don’ts.

B-SS 1. Effective oral and written communication skills and listening skills

10/20/2025 – U1L8: APS Bully Prevention Lesson – Differences Add Value: Students will learn that diversity means being different. They will explore how they are the same as others and how they are different and how they are special.

B-SS 2. Positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with students who are similar to and different from them 

 

Unit 2: Emotions / Empathy

Overarching Mindset and Behavior – M 1. Belief in development of whole self, including a healthy balance of mental, social/emotional, and physical well-being 

10/27/2025 – U2L9: All About Emotions: Students will recognize that everyone experiences emotions differently, understand that emotions affect how their body feels on the inside and how their body looks on the outside, and they will classify an emotion as mild or strong, and pleasant or unpleasant.

M 1. Belief in development of whole self, including a healthy balance of mental, social/emotional and physical well-being

11/3/2025 – U2L10: Identifying Emotions in Ourselves and Others: Students will figure out how they feel and how others feel by paying attention to faces, bodies, the situation, and words.

B-LS 1. Critical-thinking skills to make informed decisions 

11/10/2025 – No New Lesson: Makeup any missed lessons. 

11/17/2025 – U2L11: Empathy and Compassion – Showing Care and Concern: Students will understand and demonstrate empathy and compassion.

B-SS 4. Empathy 

11/24/2025 – No Lesson: Short Week 

12/1/2025 – U2L12: Handling Accidents: Students will define accident, predict how others might feel as a result of an accident, and demonstrate what to say and do when they cause an accident.

B-LS 1. Critical-thinking skills to make informed decisions 

12/8/2025 – L13: SPECIAL CHILD PROTECTION LESSON: Students will recognize different types of touches, identify private body parts touching rule and the never keep secrets rule, refuse unsafe and unwanted touches assertively, and practice reporting unsafe and unwanted touches. (Letters will be sent home in November)

B-SMS 9. Personal safety skills
