Sr. Wilson Ramirez

Mr. Wilson Ramirez comes to Key after serving as an Assistant Principal at Gunston Middle School, where he was the 8th-grade administrator and supervisor of the Immersion and Montessori program and World Language Department. He has been associated with Arlington Public Schools since 2015; he worked in Washington Liberty as a Spanish teacher in the International Baccalaureate program (IB). Mr. Ramirez has over 20 years of experience working in three countries, Colombia, Spain, and the United States, from kindergarten to Graduate school. Besides, he worked with non-profit organizations promoting leadership and community work.

Mr. Ramirez emigrated to The United States; he arrived in Chicago, where he worked with the immigrant population and Kindergarten Special education students and built partnerships with different no profit organization communities. As Director of the Hispanic Leadership program in Baltimore, Mr. Ramirez helped to enhance community leadership skills by building partnerships with Loyola University, Notre Dame University, and Catholic University. He returned to work in the public education system at Fairfax County Public School as a Spanish teacher and Co-Chair of the World Language Department; besides, he coordinates the World Language assessment process based on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standard. Mr. Ramirez moved to work in 2015 at Washington Liberty, where he implemented vertical articulation and strategies with Spanish teachers to increase the enrollment and retention of minority students in the AP and IB classes.

Mr. Ramirez’s career has been marked by the mission to build equitable learning environments for all students to thrive, succeed, and develop all their possibilities. Gunston Middle School allows him to learn, apply and reflect on the Standard Based Grading, Restorative Justice practices, and Family and Community Engagement (FACE). Mr. Ramirez is a learner who comes to Key elementary school to support the system, process, and routines that make this community thriving and unique.
