Yom Kippur- NO SCHOOL Monday, Sept. 21

In celebration of Yom Kippur, there will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 21.

Yom Kippur is the holiest and most solemn day of the year in Judaism, translating literally to the “Day of Atonement”.  It marks the culmination of the High Holy Days, following Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year).  People abstain from all food and drink for roughly 25 to 26 hours.  The holiday concludes with a single long blast from a ram’s horn called a shofar, followed by a large meal to break the fast.
